Lesson Criteria

Level 1: Skills

 - Submerge mouth, nose and eyes

 - Maintain front float for 5 secs (with support)

 - Maintain back float for 5 secs ( with support)

 - Roll over from front to back and visa versa (with support)

 - Alternating arm action for front/back crawl (with support)

 - Simultaneous arm action for front/back crawl (with support)

 - Alternating leg action for front/back crawl (with support)

- Simultaneous leg action for front/back crawl (with support)

- Combined stroke for front/back crawl (with support)

 

Level 2: Skills

 

 - Submerge entire head for 5 secs

 - Maintain front float with face in water for 5 secs

 - Front glide for 2 body lengths

 - Float in facedown position (jellyfish position) for secs

 - Maintain back float for 5 secs

 - Back glide for 2 body lengths

 - Roll over from front to back and visa versa

 - Combine arm and leg action for front/back crawl for 15 ft.

 - Alternating sidestroke leg action for 5 ft (with support)

 - Simultaneous sidestroke leg action for 5 ft (with support)

 

Level 3: Skills

 

 - Jump into deep water from the side

 - Kneeling dive

 - Bob with head fully submerged in water 5 times

 - Front/back gliding using 2 different kicks for 2 body lengths

 - Survival float and back float in deep water for 30 secs each

 - Tread water for 30 secs in deep water

 - Butterfly - kick and body motion for 15 yds

 

Level 4: Skills

 

 - Dive in compact or stride position

 - Swim underwater for 3 body lengths without a breath

 - Feet first surface dive

 - Survival float and back float in deep water for 1 min. each

 - Open turn using any front/back stroke

 - Tread water for 1 min

 - Front crawl for 25 yds

 - Breaststroke for 15 yds

 - Butterfly for 15 yds

 - Back Crawl for 25 yds

 - Elementary Backstroke for 15 yds

 - Swim on side with scissors kick for 15 yds (with support)

 

Level 5: Skills

 

 - Shallow dive from side

 - Swim underwater for 15 yds

 - Tuck and pike surface dives

 - Survival float and back float for 2 mins each

 - Flip turn while swimming on front/back

 - Tread water for 2 mins

 - Front crawl for 50 yds

 - Butterfly for 25 yds

 - Breaststroke for 25 yds

 - Back Crawl for 50 yds

 - Elementary Backstroke for 25 yds

 - Sidestroke for 25 yds

 - Survival Swimming for 2 min

 

Level 6: Skills

 

 Endurance Skills

    - Front Crawl for 100 yds

    - Back Crawl for 100 yds

    - Breaststroke for 50 yds

    - Elementary Backstroke for 50 yds

    - Sidestroke for 50 yds

    - Butterfly for 50 yds

 

 Turns

    - Front Crawl Open Turn

    - Sidestroke Open Turn

    - Backstroke Open Turn

    - Front Flip Turn

    - Breaststroke Turn

    - Butterfly Turn

    - Backstroke Flip Turn

 

Level 6: Special Skills

 

  Personal Water Safety

    - HELP Position for 2 mins

    - Huddle Position for 2 mins

    - Feet-First/Pike/Tuck Surface Dives

    - Tread Water for 5 mins plus 2 mins without kicking

    - Retrieve object from deep end

    - Survival Float and Back Float for 5 mins each

    - Survival Swim for 10 mins

 

  Fundamentals of Diving

    - Dive from side in kneeling/compact/stride/standing positions

    - Forward Dive Fall in from diving board

    - Approach and Hurtle

 

  Lifeguard Readiness

    - Reaching Assist

    - Throwing Assist

    - Rescue Breathing

    - Compact Jump into water form a height with a rescue tube

    - Rescues using rescue tubes

    - Rescues involving removal from water
